Fish and other sea food -The Indian Government bans fishing for 61 days during the monsoons in the eastern coast of the country. This is to protect fish during their spawning season, and to allow them to breed. The ban is also imposed to prevent fishermen from going out during stormy weather. Hence, most of the sea food sold during the monsoons may be illegally trawled, imported, or brought from other parts of the country in conditions which may not always be hygienic. Thus, it is best to avoid eating sea food during monsoons. If you can’t resist, buy your fish yourself and cook it at home. That ways you will be able to check that the fish you buy is fresh and fully grown, You can also ask the fish monger for the source of the fish, to ascertain if it is legally trawled or not.
