Leafy vegetables -While leafy vegetables are highly nutritious and a must have in your diet, during the monsoons though, the dampness and dirt on the leaves can make them prone to germs, and hence may cause gastric illnesses if they are not cleaned properly. You may, thus, want to avoid eating leafy vegetables like spinach during the monsoons. If you do consume them, make sure that you pick up leaves that are fresh and dirt free, as much as possible, and wash them properly before cooking. Soaking them in water with a pinch of salt and turmeric may help remove some of the bacteria. Rinse the leaves in cold water a few times and pat them dry with a paper towel to ensure that they are clean.
